University of Wisconsin-Madison civil engineering alumnus Joe Naughton (BSCE ’16) is among the finalists in the National Sea Grant College Program’s 2020 class of the John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship program.
As such, Naughton will travel to Washington, D.C., with 68 other finalists to interview with federal government offices ahead of their one-year fellowships. Knauss fellows earn placements in executive offices such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of the Interior and legislative committees in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Naughton, a native of Brookfield, Wisconsin, excelled in and out of the classroom at UW-Madison. He traveled to Ecuador with Engineers Without Borders, played on the UW men’s soccer team and cofounded a student organization to curb sexual assault on campus. After graduating, he completed his master’s degree in environmental engineering at Marquette University, with a specific focus on water resources engineering.
