In this role, Yeung, an alumnus of the UW-Madison College of Engineering, will help jump-start technology entrepreneurship efforts within the college, in partnership with the School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences (CDIS) and the College of Letters and Science (L&S) at UW-Madison.

“Alan brings invaluable experience in new business venture and technology commercialization,” says Ian Robertson, Grainger Dean of the College of Engineering. “Taking more of our world-class research to market more quickly is a top priority, and Alan’s leadership and expertise in addressing opportunities and achieving alignments make him the right person to begin this effort.”

Yeung earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from UW-Madison in 1984. He also holds master’s and PhD degrees from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

An entrepreneur and a holder of multiple U.S. patents, Yeung has led more than a dozen projects from emerging technology startups to multibillion-dollar international ventures. He’s also served as a senior executive throughout Silicon Valley and the Asia Pacific market.

“I am honored to be able to serve and collaborate with key stakeholders as well as academic and research leaders in engineering, CDIS and L&S,” says Yeung. “My goal is to develop best practices in innovation that will encourage and motivate inventors having technology ideas to explore the viability and feasibility of commercializing their technology.”

Yeung’s role will include helping to develop a clear roadmap to commercialize university research, providing supporting infrastructure, assisting with securing funding to move the technology forward, and identifying teams to lead startup company formation.

He begins his position on April 1, 2022.
