Kushal Sinha, a 2015 chemical and biological engineering PhD graduate, is included on AIChE’s list of 35 Under 35 for 2020 in the innovation and entrepreneurship category.
The list, put together by the chemical engineering society AIChE and its Young Professionals Committee, recognizes engineers under 35 who have made significant contributions to the society and to the chemical engineering profession.
Sinha, 34, studied in the lab of Steenbock Professor of Engineering and Harvey D. Spangler Professor Michael Graham and is currently a senior scientist at AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical firm based in North Chicago, Illinois. The company researches new approaches in immunology, oncology, virology, neuroscience and other fields.
Sinha leads an advanced modeling and simulation group, helping to incorporate new developments in AI, machine learning and cloud computing into the company’s drug-development models. Though this type of modeling has matured rapidly in recent years, Sinha says that the computational tools used in the modeling have not yet reached their full potential, something he hopes to work on in the future.
Sinha and the 34 other awardees will be highlighted at AIChE’s Annual Meeting, a virtual event scheduled for November 16-20, 2020.
