Randolph Ashton, an associate professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering’s College of Fellows.

Ashton, who was inducted with 140 other honorees during the institute’s annual event on March 27, 2023, earned the award for his work modeling brain and spinal cord development using stem cells. He has founded a startup company applying that work to screening chemicals and pharmaceuticals for neurotoxicity. Ashton is also the associate director of the UW-Madison Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Center.

With Ashton’s induction, the Department of Biomedical Engineering counts 15 AIMBE Fellows among its faculty. Members represent the top 2% of medical and biological engineers.
