Professor Emeritus John G. Webster, one of the pioneers of the field of biomedical engineering, has added another honor to his lengthy list. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has awarded Webster its 2019 James H. Mulligan Jr. Education Medal in recognition of his career in education.

Webster, who joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty in 1967, has taught 14 different courses for undergraduate and graduate students, supervised 25 PhD theses, published 250 articles and written or edited 25 books. His publications include the most-used textbook in biomedical engineering: Medical Instrumentation: Application and Design, now in its fifth edition.

The IEEE will honor Webster at a gala at the 2019 IEEE Vision, Innovation, and Challenges Summit in May 2019 in San Diego.
