NEEP ranked #3 among nuclear engineering programs in the U.S.

The Department of Nuclear Engineering & Engineering Physics in the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering tied for #3 among nuclear engineering programs in the nation in the 2025 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nuclear Engineering Programs

“This new ranking recognizes the strength of the faculty we’ve hired in the last six years, adding eight outstanding scholars across our research portfolio,” says Paul Wilson, Grainger Professor of Nuclear Engineering and chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics.

Our department only continues to grow with plans to welcome three additional faculty members in the fall. We look forward to the new fission and fusion research activity in these developing labs and in our existing world-class experimental facilities.

This growth is perfectly timed with increasing undergraduate class sizes in recent years, as our commitment to education excellence has never been more important. Even as we evolve, NEEP will remain a tight-knit community that celebrates and supports the academic and professional development of each individual student.
