July 31, 2025 Three NEEP students awarded American Nuclear Society scholarships Written By: Lili Sarajian Departments: Nuclear Engineering & Engineering Physics Categories: Faculty|Students Three outstanding students from the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics were awarded scholarships from the American Nuclear Society (ANS). We are proud to congratulate these students and excited to see their continued impact as students, researchers, and leaders in the field! Katarina Dries Katarina Dries is a junior studying Nuclear Engineering. She is a University Nuclear Leadership Program Scholar and serves as the Youth Outreach Chair on the executive board of the ANS UW–Madison Student Chapter. This summer, Katarina interned at TerraPower in Washington, and she will be joining the Hirst Lab this semester to research nuclear materials. Riley Trendler Riley Trendler is a first-year graduate student working with Assistant Professor Stephanie Diem. He received his Bachelor’s in Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he served as the President of the American Nuclear Society UIUC Student Section. Asher Jewell Asher Jewell is a senior studying Nuclear Engineering and serves as the President of the ANS UW–Madison Student Chapter. Asher is also part of the Reactor Technology Integration (ReTI) research group on the integrated energy systems team. He is particularly interested in the regulatory sector and the sociopolitical impacts of nuclear power.
