UW-Madison online graduate engineering ranked among nation’s best

In 2024, U.S. News and World Report ranked online graduate engineering programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison #11 overall and #6 for veterans.

“Our program’s unwavering commitment to student engagement and success has been instrumental in maintaining our high rankings for the past 13 years,” says Ed Borbely, Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Professional Programs in the College of Engineering. “With more than 25 years of leadership in online graduate engineering education, we attribute our success to our world-class faculty and our deliberate focus on online-by-design principles in developing our degree programs.”

The programs prioritize a balance of academic excellence and faculty with industry expertise, ensuring students gain experience applicable to their careers during the program. “We measure our success not only by our students’ achievements within our programs, but also in their accomplishments post-graduation,” says Borbely.

A notable advantage of fully online degrees, he says, is their adaptability to students’ lives, seamlessly integrating with their professional commitments.

Notable for master of engineering management master’s student Ryan Horihan is the camaraderie woven throughout his experience. “The thing I enjoy most about the program is the interactive learning environment,” he says. “Even though we’re virtual, the professors care so much about us. It’s almost like we’re colleagues.”
