Written By: Adam Malecek

Max Salick (BSEMA ’08, MSEMA ’10, PhDMS&E ’14) has been named a 2017 STAT Wunderkind, recognizing him as one of “the brightest young minds in life science.” The award from STAT—a national publication that focuses on health, medicine and science news—honors early-career scientists and doctors who are blazing new trails as they attempt to answer some of the biggest questions in medicine. Salick, a postdoctoral researcher at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, was recognized for his work building brain organoids to study diseases such as tuberous sclerosis, a disease that leads to epilepsy. The publication selected a total of 26 winners from hundreds of nominations in 2017.
