Curt Bronkhorst, a professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, has been named the honorary commander of the 115th Fighter Wing Medical Group.

The 115th Fighter Wing Honorary Commander Program is a partnership that links military commanders with business leaders in the local community. These relationships provide an opportunity for both military and civilian professionals to gain valuable insight into and perspectives of different organizations. The program also serves as a vital link for the Wisconsin Air National Guard to connect with and educate the public on the important missions of the 115th Fighter Wing. The medical group’s activities include medical/health systems management, dentistry, bioenvironmental, public health, and aerospace medical services.

In this service role to the 115th Fighter Wing, Bronkhorst will help develop relationships between military professionals and the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics. He will serve in the role from 2019-2021.

Bronkhorst, who joined the engineering physics faculty in February 2019, has worked extensively with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Energy on areas of advanced technology development. He specializes in theoretical/computational mechanics of materials, computational plasticity, multi-scale material modeling, damage mechanics, single crystal plasticity, dynamic material behavior, and structural phase transformation.
