Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Giri Venkataramanan and Kyle Hanson, lab manager for the Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium, served as general co-chairs for the IEEE International Future Energy Challenge, which will hold its final round of competition on the UW-Madison campus July 29-31, 2019. The contest is an international student competition for innovation, conservation and effective use of electrical energy organized around a specific challenge. During the 2019 event, teams from around the world will present their concepts for E-drive bicycles as a sustainable solution for easing traffic congestion in major cities while reducing fossil fuel consumption. Also on the steering committee is ECE Associate Professor Bulent Sarlioglu.
