Andy Schroedermeier, a PhD student in advised by Assistant Professor and Dugald C. Jackson Faculty Scholar Dan Ludois, won a poster presentation award at the 2018 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), held in San Antonio, Texas, March 16-21, 2018. Schroedermeier’s research focuses on electric motors with an emphasis on passive components to alleviate some of the problems that arise with variable speed drives. The paper associated with the award-winning poster was titled Integrated Inductors, Capacitors, and Damping in Bus Bars for dv/dt Filter Applications. Based on that research, Schroedermeier recently launched an online tool for calculating whether a power electronic device will need filters applied between the drive and the motor.
