On Jan. 31 and Feb. 2, representatives from more than 200 employers ranging from Madison-based startup companies to international corporations will be on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus to recruit the university’s outstanding engineering students.
“Employers recruit here because of our national and international reputation, as well as our geographic location,” says John Archambault, UW-Madison College of Engineering assistant dean for student development and director of its Engineering Career Services office. “Our students are well rounded and well educated; they have outstanding communication, problem-solving and technical skills.”
In spring 2017, employers are seeking students for both full-time employment and for internship and co-operative education positions, and computer engineering, electrical engineering and computer sciences students continue to be in high demand, he says.
Among the employers who will be attending the career fair at the Gordon Dining & Event Center are national/international companies such as Boston Scientific, Epic, KLA-Tencor, Schlumberger, Micron, Oracle, Caterpillar, Siemens and Sandia National Laboratory. Several Wisconsin-based companies, including Kimberly-Clark and Kohler, also will be on hand, along with 20 local startup companies with ties to the College of Engineering. Those include Ebullient, Understory, EatStreet, PerBlue, C-Motive, and others.
Historically, demand for UW-Madison engineers has been high, says Archambault. In the 2015-16 academic year, Engineering Career Services worked with nearly 1,000 employers who offered some-6,500 professional jobs through online job postings and on-campus recruiting. Of those employers, 410 were Wisconsin-based employers. Engineering Career Services hosts career fairs in spring and in fall; in 2015, those fairs drew 533 employers total.
