“Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW–Madison). We are a community of students, faculty, and staff driven by curiosity, innovation, and impact. We are dedicated to educating and mentoring the next generation of engineers and to advancing research that addresses the most challenging technological and societal needs. Our internationally recognized faculty bring expertise that spans the full breadth of electrical and computer engineering, empowering students to engage with everything from foundational theory to transformative real-world applications. Across areas such as intelligent systems, sustainable energy, quantum technologies, advanced computing and communication, and microelectronics, our faculty, staff, and students are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. With flexible undergraduate and graduate programs, students can shape their educational journey around the ideas and problems that excite them the most. Student organizations play a vital role in the ECE student experience by engaging Badger engineers in experiential learning, building technical and leadership skills, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across the College of Engineering and the UW–Madison campus, and creating a strong sense of community where students apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges and strengthen their academic and professional networks.
