Written By: Adam Malecek

Emily Jewell, a senior double majoring in engineering mechanics and mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is among the winners of the prestigious annual Universities Space Research Association (USRA) Scholarship Award. Jewell received the 2017 John R. Sevier Memorial Scholarship Award, which is a one-time award of $4,000.

USRA awards scholarships to undergraduate students who tackle challenging scientific questions in the areas of space research and exploration, and create technologies and solutions that positively affect people’s lives. A committee of university faculty members in science and engineering disciplines from top-tier universities selected the six award recipients in 2017 from a pool of 112 entrants from 64 different universities.

During her time at UW-Madison, Jewell has garnered a number of additional academic awards, including the esteemed Barry Goldwater Scholarship in 2017 for undergraduate excellence in the sciences.
