Sanjan Gupta, spring 2020 PhD graduate in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, is the recipient of an Undergraduate Research Scholars program Exceptional Mentorship Award.

The award recognizes Gupta’s work mentoring first and second-year undergraduate students in the URS program hosted by the College of Letters and Science. The goal of the program is to provide undergrad students with opportunities participate in scientific research and creative work.

This type of high-impact mentoring often gives undergrads a leg-up when it comes to pursuing post-graduate opportunities and encourages leadership, cross-disciplinary cooperation and independent thought. For students from underrepresented populations, the program also shows improved retention and graduation rates.

URS Exceptional Mentorship winners are chosen based on project accomplishments and are nominated by student mentees. The URS program is now accepting applications for the 2020-21 academic year.
